After a full onsite system demonstration at the mine, PotashCorp recently placed an order with NLT’s exclusive distributor in Eastern Canada, Levitt-Safety, for the Northern Light Digital Network, Asset Tracking and VoIP solutions.
PCS New Brunswick is a particularly harsh environment with high levels of humidity and salt. NLT vice-president of engineering Richard Oxby said the robust properties of the Northern Light Digital Network would be well suited to the conditions at the mine.
The NLT tracking device will allow operators to see the location of vehicles and assets through the Northern Light Digital software, which is part of the company’s complete tracking solution.
Real-time location information and mobile, reliable voice communication are critical for safety underground, especially in the event of an emergency or evacuation and the Northern Light Digital VoIP solution will allow the mine to utilise a telephone service over the network underground.
Installation of the network is expected to begin in early 2007.
